Role UI Design
Design a simple application that allows students to access their coursework from their mobile devices
Knowing that the author had already experienced a hardship with losing her first illustrator, I was extra determined to work on this project. The author found me by accident after looking for a different illustrator with my same name. I had never illustrated a book before but I knew that my style was quite different than her original direction.
Color-coding was an easy way to help students identify their courses quickly while on-the-go.
I started every illustration in pencil. Once I liked my sketch, I traced in it black marker. From there, I digitized and brought each illustration in to Photoshop where I added color. The process was very time consuming but extremely fun once I had a good set of each character that I could then copy and paste and change simple features like expressions and body language.
Once I had all of the illustrations completed, I flew to Minneapolis and had a workshop with my family (also artists) who helped me make some finishing touches before we sent the book off to get printed.
Because the design was simple, the development was quick and easy to implement. The application was designed over the course of 4 weeks and was effortless to update.
